TOUR: Alpenrose Dairy Theater (1943 Christmas From Home)

  • Ernesto's Italian Restaurant 8544 Southwest Apple Way Portland, OR, 97225 United States (map)

Join for the next installment of the annual Alpenrose Dairy Theater’s WWII Saga: 1943 Christmas From Home

The 1943 Christmas From Home play is a historic reenactment of a WWII radio show from 1943 as it would have been performed live on stage in Portland, Oregon. It is the third  show in a five year series of plays (1941-45) and includes authentic sound effects, costumes, live music and sketches combined with real stories from NW troops and the local news of the day. The plays were researched and written by NW author Pat Kruis Tellinghusen.

The 1943 play highlights the 75th anniversary of events playing out in WWII. This year’s show features the story of Sgt. Kenny Saito, a young Japanese-American who left his family at the Minidoka internment camp to serve his country in the Army. Audiences will also hear the stories of Evelyn, a young war bride who became a mother while her husband was away, a zealous ration board officer who experiences his own “Casablanca”, and two young soldiers who have returned from their first mission with the 10th Mountain Division.

Play starts at 7:30pm: Alpenrose Dairy 6149 SW Shattuck Road Portland, OR 97221
